Recently renewed my vehicle registration and have sent me a card with a new registration sticker. Now let 's say that is valid from 3/2/09 - 3/2/10. Does today is 1/16/09, so I will have to wait until 3/2/09 to put the new sticker and registration in my car?

i would wait if i were you. you might get pulled over and get questioned about having current vehicle registration. it’s like pulling out an insurance card for a future date. the officer will automatically want to see the current one. definitely wait.
