Shana asked: My finance company based out of California has refused a copy of my vehicles title on several occasions. The wouldn’t even fax a copy to the DMV saying that they are the lein holder so I could renew my registration. My account agent went as far as telephoning my grandmother telling her that I had the title transfered in her name making her financially responsible and that she had to pay 2 months payments in advance immediatly to avoid repossesion. My account at the time was spotless and I was 3/4 the way through payments. Are there any laws to force them to do so, if not, any suggestions on dealing with them?
Well my car was impounded for expired registration and for the impound to release the car to me I had to show proof of current reg. or a copy of the title. The finance co. wouldn’t release a copy of the title to the impound instead they gave me the option of once again paying 2 months payments plus a 295.00 fee for them to send a tow truck to get my car out of the impound and release it to me at the impounds front gate. This was after 3 weeks of my car racking up a 115.00 a day storage fee at the impound, which added up was quite a bill! A week later;thank god, the owner of the impound called appologizing for my unfortunate luck in getting the finance company that I did. He had delt with them and had even worse battles, which must have really left an impression because he waived all but the initial tow fee of 90.00 and released my car without title/current reg. the very next day. This is just a glimpse of what I have gone through. Someone has to know something I can do!

Leaga asked: A bit tough to follow but here is the situation.
My friend got his car from his girlfriends Mom. The title is technically in his name but I dont think the DMV was ever legally notified of the transaction that changed the ownership.
My friends car is now impounded (for having out of date tags and being reported as an abandoned vehicle)
So they wont release the car until registration is paid. So I have two questions. 1) If my buddy brings the title to the DMV will he be able to register the car himself or will he need to bring his GFs mom?
Also, he is thinking that he may not be able to afford getting it out. So he is thinking about letting it go to auction. So Question number 2) Who will be legally and financially responsible for the balance after the auction, my friend or his GFs mom and will it end up hurting their credit if they dont pay?

I was wondering if there is any provider who can perform the inspection and give me the inspection certificate that Hawaii DMV accepts for registration.
Thanks!

sexiii asked: I have a Hyundai Sonata 2000 and it is under my parent’s name. I heard when the vehicle is worth under certain amount the title transfer fee can be waived, treating it as a gift from a family member. Is that true? and also, would it be best transfer title before I move to california? do I have to re-register once I get there? Thank you for reading and answering!!

dudnaito asked: Basically, I moved from atl, georgia to los angeles, ca. I’m trying to get my vehicle registered here, but along my trip to california, my car got broken into, and for whatever godforsaken reason many things including documents were stolen. So… basically, i don’t have my title or my vehicle registration from georgia. The only thing i could find was a georgia motor vehicle registration that expired last year in 2007. Even more unfortunate is that my birthday is this month, so my tag will expire by the end of this month.
Uh… any suggestions. I really do need to be driving that car.
i already called georgia… they said it’ll take several weeks (almost a month) to send me a title.

?zombiefan asked: I have several outstanding, overdue parking violations from the state of California. I was unemployed for over 2 years and wasn’t able to pay them. I’m back in New York and desperately need to get another car. My question is, do all my parking violations have to be paid off before registering a new vehicle in New York?
If I pay them off a few at a time, and demonstrate a willingness to pay, will I still have a problem with DMV registration?
