Outstanding parking violations. Can it stop me from registering a vehicle in a different state?

?zombiefan asked:

I have several outstanding, overdue parking violations from the state of California. I was unemployed for over 2 years and wasn’t able to pay them. I’m back in New York and desperately need to get another car. My question is, do all my parking violations have to be paid off before registering a new vehicle in New York?

If I pay them off a few at a time, and demonstrate a willingness to pay, will I still have a problem with DMV registration?

Parking tickets are interesting. They go with the car and not with the person.(at least this was the case 5 years ago)

If the car you own now is not the same as the car the got the parking tickets, I don’t believe a record of it will show up when you try to register another car.

Parking tickets are really much nothing serious because its a not moving violation. pay them off and nothing happens. thats how cops make easy money for the state/province.

you will be able to register your car but as far as getting tags or stickers that validate your registration you wont be able to get them until your tickets are paid off. I just went through that in Novemeber.
